Blanca Guzman\r\nDelgado ESL\r\nHonduras native\r\nProfessor Yadira Diaz \r\n\r\nThe Nightmare after Katrina at Delgado\r\n\r\n\r\n Delgado Community College had to confront serious problems because of Hurricane Katrina. Delgado Community College at City Park was flooded by the hurricane. Therefore, several students had to register for their classes at Delgado on the West Bank. For example, I had to drive twice from Kenner to Delgado on the West Bank. Then, after Katrina struck New Orleans, Delgado Community College had low enrollment. Thus, many of my friends that had studied with me before left for Houston. Now, there are a few students at Delgado contrary to the previous years before the storm. Finally, Delgado Community College had a scarcity of teachers. The English as a Second Language program had to combine some of the classes due to a lack of instructors. For instance, on the first days of classes, I had to share my classes with other students from the ESL program for nearly one week. In those days after Katrina hit New Orleans, at Delgado many students suffered from frustration and uncertainty because they did not know what to expect. However, a big number of us are happy to be back at Delgado even though the school is not completely rebuilt as it was before. \r\n
