In a broadcast e-mail, the Provost tells all faculty & staff:\r\n\r\nAs of early this afternoon, the University has admitted 2771 new students from hurricane-affected areas. Of that number, 2168 have already been routed through the full registration process and have courses. Some of the 600 students admitted but not registered are still going through the system, but others may have decided against staying for a variety of reasons, notably the limited supply of housing. Today the number of new students seeking admission was less than\r\nhalf what it was Tuesday. \r\n\r\nIn the Manship School, we are estimated to have taken in 60-80 students. \r\n\r\nAccording to the Provost only 38 students have resigned their studies for the semester. Of course, there is still time for more but that number still seem lower than some of expected. \r\n\r\nIn going over the changed syllabus today one of my students, in an outburst, called me something none of my students have ever said at week 2: nice. Who would have thought?
