Online Story Contribution, Hurricane Digital Memory Bank

My elderly 81-year old Godmother, Helen, was living alone in a mobile home in the Deerfield Manufactured Home Community in Coconut Creek, Florida during Hurricane Wilma October 24, 2005. The Hurricane destroyed her mobile home. She had not evacuated. She was in the mobile during the entirety of Wilma with her small dog. She believed that it was the end. I had warned her to leave, but she refused, as she had two months prior, when Hurricane Katrina blew into Broward County in August 2005. Helen\'s trailer sustained no damage during Katrina, but was heavily damaged by Wilma, with winds estimated at between 100 and 110 miles per hour. Although extremely frightened, Helen was not hurt during the Hurricane. Helen left everything behind but her pocketbook and dog and headed back to her former home of Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
