My family and I live in Franklinton, La. At the time of the storm my wife was 6 months pregnant and we had a 2 yr old daughter. Even as far north as we were there was still major damage. In our yard we had 7 trees down, and heavy water damage in our bedroom. \r\n\r\nAugust 28, 2005 I left my father\'s low lying horse farm, in Slidell, with my last load of foles and mares heading for higher ground. As we said our goodbyes I asked my father to leave and come to Franklinton and stay with my family. He refused, my father is from lower Plaquemine parish and has ridden out every storm since 1949. His final parting words were to tell me were all important document and account numbers would be, and that he was proud of the father I had become. I cried for the next thirty minutes as I weaved my way through heavy traffic on the backroads to get home. That trip which only takes an hour took 3 and was the most difficult one I have ever made.\r\n\r\nAs the storm apprached we left our house to displace to a brick house further in the country. We had hoped that moving to a more sturdy house would be a good idea. But before the worst of the storm hit up there the roof blew off the house we went to and a large pine tree crashed onto what was left of the roof.\r\n\r\nIt took a day and half befor we could finally make it the 10 miles to our home. \r\n\r\nIt took four days until I was able to find out that my father Had succesfully rode out another storm.\r\n\r\nAll in all my family lost 2 homes, 3 barns, 350 bales of hay, and 2 roofs. No animals were harmed and all my relatives made it fine. My second child was born November 9, 2005.
