Cup Of Water\r\n\r\n I just moved to a tiny one bedroom apt. in a lovely tiny town in Louisiana with my two kittens . I did not have my cable T.V. hooked up.. I did not know how severe the hurricane was until it was too late to leave. On Sunday afternoon a few hours before the storm I put a cup of fresh water out for the birds and homeless animals to drink. I put the red plastic solo cup of water right outside of my back door on the ground. I went back inside and prepared for the storm. Being a retired passenger railroad conductor I decided to time the hurricane. What most people don\'t know is that most hurricanes last 5 to 8 hours and are overnight. This hurricane was 11 and a half hours long. \"Katrina\" blew through from 2 a.m. Monday morning till 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. I put my two kittys in my tiny bedroom...closed the door, put a mattress against the window...and prayed for eleven and a half hours. After the storm I opened my back door. the wind was still blowing strong. I looked around and saw total destruction everywhere. A 100 ft pine tree missed my bedroom window by about 9 ft. I looked around and saw roofs on the lawns, hanging wires, broken glass, huge trees uprooted everywhere, houses on their face in the middle of the street. I looked all around me and then I glanced down and saw the cup of water that I put out the evening before. The cup of water was still standing (it had two twigs in it ) Everything around it destroyed but the cup of water was still standing . My niece \"Katie\" told me.. \"Aunt Alma...You took care of nature...and nature...took care of you...She was so right...
