I am a nurse who stayed @ Chal. Med. Ctr. from Sun. until Thurs. evening with my husband and daughter during hurricane Katrina. All of us employees did the best that we could do in the situation to care for our patients. Food and water was rationed. It was very hot. Some of our nurses were treated with IV fliuds because of dehydration. We were surrounded by about 12 or more feet of water. Many hosp. employee\'s families helped out tremendously with anything that they could. The patients were evacuated first on Wed. The employees and families were rescued on Thurs. by Black Hawk helicopters. It was an experience ( I wouldn\'t want to do it again though), but I\'m glad that I was there! I had prayed for strength and peace. I now know what it is to experience the \"Peace that passeth understanding\" that is mentioned in the Bible. Once we left the hosp., we were taken to the airport in Kenner where my family and I took a plane to Houston. We stayed with my cousin for 3 nights then came to Al., where we are now residing (until God takes us somewhere else).
