I woke up on August 27, 2005 at about 10:00 a.m. I was really excited because it was my 21st birthday. I woke my roommate up and asked if she wanted to go get breakfast, so we began to get dressed. Then we went downstairs of our apartment on the campus of Dillard University and sat on the couch to decide what we were going to do today on my special day. Next, my mother called and asked if I knew about the category 3 or 4 hurricane, in which, I had not heard anything about. She told me to begin packing my stuff in my car and get to her friend\'s house in Baton Rouge. Of course, I was shocked and did not want to leave because it was my birthday! So me and my roommate just sat on the couch and waited for someone else to call and say something. Well, it happended the lady over our apartment complex knocked on the door and told us we had to be out by 1:00 p.m. We began fussing and packing our stuff because Dillard usually gives us more than a day to warn us about a hurricane, but we had not heard anything. Plus, it was the first week of school, which was our senior year! After we packed our things in the cars, we decided to only take one car, in which, I left my car because we have fled from so many hurricanes every since our freshman year and nothing ever happended. Although, I learned from that experience. I DO REGRET LEAVING MY CAR. We finally got on the road and headed for Baton Rouge, a drive that usually takes 1 hour took us about 4 or 5 hours. When we made it to the house we sat and watched television for the next few days until the storm actually hit and we were devastated. Hurricane Katrina is something I will never forget for the rest of my life.
