University of Virginia New Orleans Journals\r\n\r\nTuesday, January 10, 2006\r\n\r\n\r\nJoel Morgan, School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Madeleine Rowan, College of Arts and Sciences\r\n\r\nToday we went to Xavier University to help restore an annex to the convent that originally started the school. We worked with Joe Zinn, who is volunteering from his retirement in Seattle, Oregon. While Joe worked to put up tar paper for sealing the interior of the house, Madeleine and I spent the day painting the studs for the house. In the majority of cases, the flooding caused a large amount of mold to grow on the wood up to the top of the waterline. Joe had cleaned this mold off, but we \r\nneeded to seal it so it would not return. Thus, we applied a sealer to the open studs in order to prevent recurrence of the mold.\r\n\r\nThis evening, we journeyed to the corner of Hillary and Maple to Bruno’s Tavern. There, we met several alumni from the area. \r\n\r\nThey were very willing to talk to us about their experiences and were interested to hear our views and experiences. Tomorrow, two students will return with Joe to Xavier to apply more tar paper and perhaps put up some drywall. After a \r\nrousing game of basketball, we think its time for us to all hit the sack.\r\n\r\n Original URL: \r\nhttp://www.virginia.edu/topnews/releases2006/NewOrleansJourn\r\nal05.html
