Deaf Government Area: Touring the Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans

While enroute, Greta Gladney discusses some of the schools and other resources located on St. Claude Avenue before the August 2005 flooding. St. Claude connects the Lower and Upper Ninth Ward and St. Bernard Parish to other parts of New Orleans. (Note: the term Lower in this context refers to the community\'s location further downriver from the upper Ninth Ward. It does not reflect how high or low the land is in relation to sea level. The construction of the Industrial Canal in the 1910s and 1920s divided the ward into two.)\r\nMs. Gladney also addresses some of the neighborhood concerns regarding pre-Katrina US Army Corps of Engineers efforts to widen the Industrial Canal and damage done to adjoining properties.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n(To view the video, double click the above link, or download it by right clicking on a PC or control click on a Mac to open with a media player of your choice that can view MP4 files.)
