Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

Alone, in a vastness of white sand\r\nA tiny blade of life extends itself upward\r\nThrough its hard, dried bed\r\n\r\nAlone, but for wind and sound of seas\r\nThe tiny blade, tool of the wind, bends forward, then backward\r\nSwaying with the moving life which only the wind can give\r\n\r\nThe blade makes a sketch in the sand\r\nAn enchanted band\r\n\r\nSoon, the coming tide brings greedy fingers to the sand\r\nPulling shells, stone and sand to sea\r\nGreed, kissed with one last grasp...then nothing\r\n
