I Need To Write

Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

I need to write\r\n\'Cause I can\'t hold this all inside\r\nI\'ve recently realized\r\n\r\nI\'m not just a poet, but a poet with a mission\r\nWhen God made me he gave me vision\r\n\r\nBlessed to make it, I survive\r\nWish I could pay with love to fly\r\nTo the disaster area underneath God\'s new angels in the sky\r\nMy oh my\r\n\r\nOh my soul\r\nMy soul feels like it could explode\r\nI need, NO I want to be there\r\nI would gather all the people I could possibly hold\r\nHold them in my arms and never let go\r\n\r\nSing them songs of poetry\r\nSing their tears away\r\nYearning to pray\r\nI feel like dropping to my knees\r\n\r\nI have no funds to send -\r\nMy son, 5 years old\r\nHas offered his pennies to send\r\n\r\nIt\'s us poor\r\nWho wish we could pour\r\nOut our hearts of gold and strengh of steal\r\nTo help them heal\r\n\r\n. . . but instead we kneel\r\n
