I am a First Responder a member of a Task Force of eighty-three people that came from San Diego California. I kept a journal from our deployment until our return twenty-eight days later; An experience that has changed my life forever. Traveling from San Diego to New Orleans by Gray Hound bus ending up at Zephyr\'s Field off Airline Drive, this became our base camp location. Everyday going to places with names like Old Gentilly Road, Feliciana Drive, Mac Arthur Ave.,Slidell, Almonaster Blv.,Chief Menteur Blv.,Elysian watha, and Fields Ave.Hiawatha, and Pocahontas to name a few. We came to help but many time our hands where tied, i recall an event that took place inwhich the Mayor and Police Chief said we could not enter and residents unless the water had reached five and one half feet inside the structure. If we forced entry that didnt meet that requirement we would be arrested, after that directive NOPD followed us on our daily missions. We were required to knock if we heard someone call for help we could enter.\r\nI know in my heart we left people behind that could have been rescued, but we did find people alive. Everyday I think about the people of Katrina I will never for get you...
