Picture from the 1972 Chalmette High School yearbook.\r\n\r\nChalmette High School is located in Chalmette in St.\r\nBernard Parish, LA, just outside New Orleans. The\r\nParish was completely flooded during Hurricane\r\nKatrina. In the days after Hurricane Katrina a small\r\ngroup of dedicated staff, including school Principal\r\nWayne Warner and Assistant Principal Cookie Mundt,\r\nopened the school as a shelter for parish residents.\r\nThey were trapped in the school for four days with\r\nlittle food and water while they waited for rescue.\r\n\r\n
