Escape From The Superdome

 Escape From The Superdome

Collection

Elisa survived five days in New Orleans’s Superdome prior to being evacuated with her family to Houston’s Reliant Center. While drawing this picture she shared her story with a Katrina’s Kids Project volunteer. \"We\'re survivors - We\'re not refugees. We\'re not homeless — well, we don\'t have a home — but we\'re survivors.\" Like many of Katrina’s Kids, Elisa is also full of hope \"It\'s always gonna be a bad side, but on the other side of the river, there\'s gonna be hope.\" Elisa and her family had to evacuate once again on September 24th prior to the arrival of Hurricane Rita, but have returned to Houston. Elisa is now attending the New Orleans West Prep Academy in Houston, TX, a KIPP academy school serving 360 evacuee children.
