Like most New Orleanians, we\'ve evacuated so many times that we almost didn\'t evacuate for Katrina. However, my neice was 4 months old at the time, so we decided to just be safe. Our destination was McComb, MS. \"Close so we don\'t have a loing drive back,\" my mother said. We got to our less than desirable hotel Sunday evening and waited. McComb, MS was not the best place to evacuate, becuase Katrina hit us as a category two storm. Our hotel lost power and we were told that it would be two to twenty-one days before we got power. We didn\'t evacuate with a battery operated radio so my parents and I sat in our van to listen to the news about New Orleans. It was in the rain, outside of our room that we heard the first stories of flooding in St. Bernard and our fellow evacuewa losing their homes. We knew it was bad when my ex-boyfriend sent me a text message on Monday night offering for me to go stay at his house. We drove twelve hours to San Antonio, TX on Tuesday and stayed with my aunt for three weeks. I stayed in Texas for a total of five weeks, because my mom was working in Dallas. When I drove into Metairie on October 4 I cried and I decided that there is no place like New Orleans.
