I was the last person in my household to leave for the storm. My mother and grandma had already left. I woke up early Sunday morning to finish boarding up my house and picking up all the lawn furniture. By the time, I had completed all of that it was already ten in the morning. I put a few days worth of clothes in my bag and got in my vehicle and left for Dallas. It took me sixteen hours to get there. By the time, I had gotten into Dallas, Hurricane Katrina was just making landfall.\r\n\r\n The house that I stayed at was given to us for the time by longtime friends of the family. They had been renovating it for the past six months. The house was one story with a two car carport. The house was in one of the Dallas suburbs. All the paint on the exterior was brand new. Also, the front porch was painted. On the porch, there were four oak rocking chairs. This is where I spent most of my time while I was up there talking to friends and family on my phone and watching the world go by. The interior of the house had three bedrooms and two bathrooms. I lived in one bedroom, my mom in another, and my grandma in the third one. One of the bathrooms only had a tub in it because it had not been completed yet in the renovations. The kitchen was bright in every aspect. The walls were painted bright blue, there were at five windows so that the sun came in form every direction and the cabinets were a light wooden color. The living room only had a television and a couch in it. The people that own the house had not finished putting furniture in it. The colors in the living room were much darker than the ones in the kitchen. While staying in the house was nice it was not home. \r\n\r\n After spending five long days there, I packed up and head back home on September My mom and grandma decided to stay behind until I got back home to tell them how everything was looking. I got back home eight hours later only to discover that my house had flooded. I began tearing the carpet, sheetrock and cabinets for the next day. My family did not return until sometime during the third week of September. That is when we got electricity back. I spent those three weeks by myself working on my house and helping friends that had come back to work on theirs.
