My father, brother, his girlfriend at the time, and I left our home the morning the hurricane hit. We drove to Amite, Louisiana to stay in a house my uncle owned. A house I once thought was spacious and comfortable turned into the complete opposite the night we were there because it was more than four of us sharing the house. We stayed with two of our cousins, four friends of one cousin, and three friends of my dad. We stayed at the house for one night because we could not take the enclosed space and lack of privacy. The next day my dad, brother, his girlfriend, and I left Amite.\r\n\r\n We drove eight hours to Floriene, Louisiana to be with my mom who had to evacuate the people from Sunrise Assisted Living Center. The next day, my brother, his girlfriend, and my dad drove to Lafayette to find a hotel to stay in. I went on a bus with my mom to drop off the elderly people at the other Sunrise homes in Houston, Texas and San Antonio, Texas. I was in the bus for a total of twelve hours. The road felt like home to me for the past few days. Every new day I was going somewhere new. I always wanted to travel, but not like this. After staying a night in Houston, my mom and I were on a plane to Memphis, Tennessee. From Memphis we boarded another plane to Lafayette where we would meet up with the rest of our family. Leaving the Lafayette airport, we drove to Opelousas, Louisiana where we would stay at the Best Western for the next three weeks. \r\n\r\n Finally, we arrived at the Best Western, which was our main home during the evacuation. Five of us shared a small room with two double beds. There was no space for walking on the purple carpet because our bags were everywhere. For one week, we spent more time together than we did in a long time. After one week of watching the same shows on television and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch, my brother, his girlfriend, and I decided to go drive down the highway to this place where we could eat junk food and ride go-karts. This place seemed like heaven on earth to us, but we never made it there. We were in a terrible car accident and had to be rushed to the hospital in ambulances. Thankfully, we were all alive. After seeing our injuries, the people who worked at the hotel were nice enough to give us an extra room so we could all have a bed to lay in. I stayed in the room with my mom and dad, and my brother and his girlfriend stayed in the other room. Although, most of my time was spent in the room with my brother and his girlfriend. \r\n\r\n Now, we were not able to drive anywhere because the car was totalled, so we layed in bed all day staring at the television and waiting to go home. I wanted to go home so badly. I almost lost my life, my car was gone, and all I wanted was to go back to a house I wasn\'t sure was still there. I dreamed of the big oak tree in front of the green shudders on the brick house that I spent my life growing up in. I thought of walking on the pathway toward the glass front door. I thought of what a small walk it was from the driveway to the pathway to the door. Then, barely able to walk, I felt what a long walk it was to the door from the bed that I laid in so far away. \r\n\r\n
