The historic, unanimous vote from New Orleans City Council to demolish the B.W. Cooper, C.J. Peete, St. Bernard and Lafitte housing developments is testament. However, the public can\'t allow our deep shame of the pre-Katrina housing conditions to drive a mean spirited discourse centered on the poor. Housing must improve. However, if we don\'t trade our disdain of the poor for a contempt of poverty, what kind of homes will we build for those we secretly despise?\r\n
