This four-minute video documentary short profiles artist Rolland Golden (American, b. 1931) and his series of paintings of New Orleans following Katrina. \r\n\r\nThe program provides a brief overview Golden\'s life and 50-year career as a professional artist and focuses on his latest work, a series of paintings interpreting Hurricane Katrina\'s effect on New Orleans. Golden\'s Katrina paintings were exhibited at the New Orleans Museum of Art from November 2007 through mid-February 2008. \r\nBorn in New Orleans, Golden attended the southern regionalist John McCrady Art School in the Crescent City and began a lifelong devotion to art. Internationally recognized, Golden has had dozens of one-man exhibitions in the United States, the former Soviet Union and France. His works are in numerous collections around the world. \r\n\r\nProduced by Matt Martinez and Michael Mizell-Nelson, the film was directed and written by Martinez; the video short includes a cross-section of Golden\'s art and interviews with art historian John Kemp and Golden himself. The program was produced in partnership with New Orleans PBS affiliate WYES-TV 12, and it aired in January 2008 as a feature on Peggy Scott Laborde\'s weekly program \"Steppin\' Out.\" The documentary also screened as a companion piece for the Golden exhibition at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
