Another person who escaped New Orleans by leaving the city two days in advance of Katrina, I visited family in North Alabama. My brother and parents were kind enough to house me until I knew more of what would happen at the University of New Orleans. Knowing that I would not be able to re-inhabit my apartment for months and following promptings from Chancellor Ryan regarding Faculty responsibilities, I made the decision to seek a place to set up an office in order to teach online courses for my department. I returned to Urbana, Illinois and spoke with many friends from that Faculty as well as to the Director of the School of Music. Those friends made it possible for me to share an office and engage with other Faculty and students through music performance. Because of this I was able to complete my work for UNO and follow the original schedule of activity for the fall semester of 2005.
