I am from Baton Rouge and was not directly affected by hurricane Katrina, but was by the aftermath. The most memorable result of Katrina in Baton Rouge for me was the population increase. Many people took others into their homes and schools, and I recall with no complains! Although, I heard MANY complains about the increase in traffic. Three years later I had moved to New Orleans for school. Only after one week of being settled into my dorm, there was a mandatory evacuation for hurricane Gustav. For the first time I realized what it was like for those living in New Orleans. I remember being scared and realizing how it felt to pack up everything and leave when a natural disaster was on its way.
