I was at home during hurricane katrina. My family happened to come into town before the hurricane to visit. Seeing the hurricane warning on the news, we thought it was going to just blow over like hurricane Ivan. \r\n\r\nWhen the hurricane hit, my family and I were sitting in the living room of my house. The News said that the hurricane was headed towards the Mississippi River. Apparently the hurricane was worse then we thought it would be. The mayor came on the news and stated a mandatory evacuation. \r\n\r\nWe decided to stay home and wait it out. As the storm came closer the weather became worse. Debris flew in the air as the wind grew more violent. Raining hard, the water rose quickly. Eventually the water began rising into my home. The water stopped working and the electricity turned off. \r\n\r\nRunning out of food and water, we were forced to leave. We drove to Houston to stay with my aunt. We gave one of our neighbors a ride to baton rouge so he could be with his family.\r\n\r\nWe returned the first day we were allowed to only to find our house ruined. We discovered mold all over the walls and floor when we enter our home. the house smelled terrible. The floor had mud and debris everywhere.\r\n\r\nThrough lots of hard work, we restored our home. While my dad was working out in houston because of a job transfer. I had to work on my house alone because i was living here alone; it me took three weeks to gut my house. My house is finished now and i live it alone but my dad comes to visit every other weekend.\r\n
