Left New Orleans 2-days before Hurricane Katrina hit land. My sister and myself went to Lafayette, LA to stay with our parents. Hurricane Rita hit the south central and south western areas of Louisiana hardest. At my parents home, we had seven days without electricity. We were lucky. A few miles away, the area near Carencro, LA did not have electricity until almost two weeks later. Our friends in Lake Charles had worse luck. It took almost three or four weeks for power. We were lucky in Lafayette with only minor roof damage and downed trees. With our blues from the evacuation of New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina, my sister and I were lucky to not have to evacuate again. Our home in New Orleans was badly damaged and unliveable but our family home in Lafayette had such minor issues like roof work that we were happy we did not pack up and leave town.
