I lived in Covington during Katrina. I was 16 years old and a junior at Covington High. During the storm I stayed in my dad\'s office in Northpark with my dad and two brothers. My mom stayed in St. Tammany Hospital with my grandfather. The day after the storm we were allowed to go back to our house, we had to climb over a tree to get there. Our electricity stayed out for three weeks and my high school closed for five. We had no water at our house so we bathed using the sink at my dad\'s office. While my high school was closed it served as a special needs shelter. My mom, grandfather, and I voluntered. We worked in the kitchen and served meals. I also helped babysit. We met and made friends with a lot of people, some from Bay St. Louis and others from New Orleans East. I put in a solid 100 hrs at the shelter before they cleaned out Covington High and reopened it.
