I was on the Northshore during Katrina. My family had originally planned on evacuating, but my grandparents who lived nearby refused to leave so we stayed with them throughout the storm and the weeks following. There were a total of eight people staying in the house at the time, including my great-grandmother who was over 90 years old. I consider us to be extremely lucky; our area didn\'t flood, and overall there wasn\'t much damage to the property. The main clean up that we had to do was several fallen trees around the house, including the juniper tree which had stood in front of my grandparents\' home since before I was born.
