Blog posting, SB: Relaxing on the Bayou, September 29, 2005\r\n\r\nThe Bayou was Bumpin\r\n\r\nI am sitting at Chiro Java Cafe in Seguin, Texas, where I am tapping into their free wireless. Ah to be connected again.\r\n\r\nThe past week remains somewhat of a blur to me, because it was at 6:30 am last Thursday when I left my apartment and my husband in Port Arthur, TX fleeing Hurricane Rita. Like millions of others I sat in hours of bumper-to-bumper traffic making what normally would be a 4-hour trip into a 24-hour ordeal; squatted at the side of the road b/c there were no services available along the mandatory evacuation routes; rationed the little food we brought with us to ensure we\'d have enough if we had to ride out the storm in our car; and melted in the 100+ heat as we conserved gas by driving w/o AC and watched our liquid in-take.\r\n\r\nFrom Port Arthur I landed in Taylor, Texas just north of Austin and stayed with the friends I traveled with at their aunt\'s house. Then my in-laws picked me up and we drove to Marion, Texas, outside of San Antonio. I\'m here until Sunday when I, possibly with my husband, will fly to New England. Depending on the situation, I may return home or I may stay back east.\r\n\r\nLike after Katrina, blogs and forums help people stay connected especially when far from their communities.
