Hurricane Katrina has just swept through the Gulf Coast, and here on the beach is an abandoned ship left on the sand. Nonetheless there is still one important thing left standing on the bow of the ship, the American flag. The photographer of this picture wanted to capture this as a reminder that this flag brings hope to people, even in unfortunate circumstances. It has stood tall throughout our history representing hope, courage, and standing strong even in the face of danger. Being able to see that flag even after the hurricane hit shows us what we as Americans are all about. We stand together, through the good times and the bad in courage and hope.\r\nThis image caught my eye the second that I saw it. As I was browsing through all of the other images, I just saw debris from the storm. Which is nothing that I have not already seen on the news. This image though, was something new and was able to convey many meanings and feelings that I have not been able to feel yet. By seeing this image, it added a lot more meaning to what happened in New Orleans than what I felt by what I felt by watching the news. While worrying about how everything is going to be fixed and how we will help, there was one thing that the news reporters were forgetting. We live in a country that was based on courage, and founded by people that were willing to fight even during difficult times. This hurricane has been one of the worst natural disasters in our history, but we need to remember as a country that we always come together to help one another. That flag has stood tall with honor and respect for over 200 years, and should be looked at now as a sign that we can get through this together.
