The person in the photo is Laura Peebles, who is refinishing the bottom 4 inches of my parent\'s furniture. The finishes had soaked off in the flooding, even though the water was in the house only about 24 hours. Although we received an insurance settlement for the furniture, she determined that she could refinish the chairs, tables (relatively new) and bedroom sets (60-year-old mahogany) rather than discarding them. We flew down from Washington DC with a few tools that could fly, and purchased everything else at Home Depot and the local hardware store, since most refinishing material can\'t travel on planes. By the first or second try, she had matched the varnish and finishes of all the pieces (13 in all), and had the refinishing done in about four days of work (plus one day to go to Jazz Fest). That included shaving all the bottom dresser drawers that had swollen during the flooding.
