Online Story Contribution, Hurricane Digital Memory Bank

Hurricane Katrina has changed our lives forever. I remember not really paying too much attention to her when she was growing stronger in the Gulf of Mexico and I did not want to evacuate. We always evacuate every year and nothing happens, however this time I was thankful that I left with my family and girlfriend. We all evacuated to a friend\'s house in Lakeland, LA, which is across the river from Baton Rouge. We stayed up there for almost three weeks before we could return home to Destrehan, in St. Charles Parish. I remember everyone was so worked up and even sad when we saw the first aerial shots and images from Southeast Louisiana, the northshore, Mississippi gulf coast, and Gulf Shores. We felt very blessed when we returned home and just had mostly wind damage and very little water damage. We all continued to pray and do whatever we could for those who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.
