My husband and I along with our two children left our home in Kenner with a neighbor and his son on the Sunday before Katrina hit. We only packed two changes of clothes and some food. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would lose everything we had worked all these years for. We escaped to Jackson, MS only to be greeted by Katrina later Monday & Tuesday. I learned from a friend who stayed behind that our neighborhood had flooded with a considerable amount of water. (We lived near the canal by Joe Yenni Blvd.) Since we were unable to go home, we went to St. Gabriel to stay with family. It wasn\'t until sometime in September that we were able to see our home in Kenner. The devastion was unbelievable. My home was completely ruined. Not to mention, my husband who worked for a Disaster Relief team told me that my church in the 9th Ward was gone. I have family in Houston (my son and grandchildren who was part of the Superdome refugees, whom I am not sure when I will see again. We have since relocated to Baton Rouge and we are trying to piece our lives back together again.
