Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

It was a nasty wind that blew\r\nUpon the shore that day\r\nShe howled and hissed, but she would not desist\r\nShe had to have her way\r\n\r\nShe was a lady of the night\r\nAnd she was dressed to kill\r\nShe blared and she glared, and she even dared\r\nTo do the devil\'s will\r\n\r\nShe made her way into the bay\r\nUpon that fateful eve\r\nInside New Orleans you could hear the screams\r\nOf those who were naive\r\n\r\nShe ranted, raved and misbehaved\r\nWay past the midnight hour\r\nWith her hips swaying and the town folk praying\r\nFor the harlot to lose her power\r\n\r\nKatrina left the bay at last\r\nCackling on her way\r\nAll that remains are the ungodly stains\r\nOf a lady who went astray. . .\r\n\r\n
