Hellicane: Poets Respond to Hurricane Katrina

Sister Katrina what have you done?\r\nYou rolled over New Orleans like Attilla the Hun\r\n\r\nThey knew you were coming, but some did not heed\r\nAnd now that you\'re done, they wish they could leave\r\n\r\nYour mother, Ms. Nature, your brother the sea\r\nBoth helped you destroy New Orleans\r\n\r\nOne thousand are dead and more are dying\r\nThe suffering is immense and children are crying\r\n\r\nAlthough your eye was on Biloxi and Mobile\r\nThe nation\'s eye was our New Orleans\r\n\r\nAs your victims gathered for relief\r\nThe world watched in disbelief\r\n\r\nFingers pointed and searched for blame\r\nOur enemies gloated and yelled \"shame!\"\r\n\r\nOur people responded with love and care\r\nAnd showed the world that we are there\r\n\r\nNow your sister Rita follows in your wake\r\nBut you taught us lessons of precautions to take\r\n\r\nMillions will flee your sister\'s path\r\nNow they understand your Mother\'s wrath\r\n
