Summer was over and the parents were starting to yell because the summer reading books weren\'t read yet. It was after the first week of school and all we could think about was our highly anticipated weekend. It was the brother martin football jamboree at tad gormley. I remember it well. My friends and I all carpooled and after the games we went over to one of our friends houses to swim. I\'m not sure how but we managed to squeeze 20 people into that hot tub. We were all so close and had so much fun. Later on, my best friends dad came to pick us up. He started talking about some hurricane that was heading our way. We all just laughed and talked about our plans for the next night. I went to bed that night and was woken up the next morning by hectic plans and trying to pack everything away. I was excited because all the evacuations in the past had turned into mini vacations with all the cousins. They were always alot of fun. Also, I knew that gave me some more time to finish up those summer reading books. Life was good, so I thought. Those next two days were ones that I never thought I would have to witness. All we could do was sit there and watch the news and see all the places familiar to us wash away. The life that we had known would be changed forever. I was keeping in touch with all of my friends through texting since all the phones weren\'t working. I couldnt believe it when my best friend called me and told me that she and her family would be moving to Lafayette. I couldnt believe that this was happening. My family also informed me that my high school, Mount Carmel, was submerged with over 10 feet of water and we would not be able to go back to school there until further notice. I couldnt believe it. All the things I had taken for granted such as reading a summer reading book. Needless to say, I never had to finish them but I would have done anything to be back at home with all my friends and family. Katrina wasnt just a hurricane, it was a change of life. Everything people knew and what they believed in would never be the same. Its been 4 years now and a lot of good has happened. I am now much more greatful for what I have. I also cherish every moment because you never know when something may change. I have learned a lot and I will never forget that day.
