When hurricane Katrina gets brought up, I think about my experience evacuating. A week prior to the storm my dad underwent quadruple bypass surgery and was still supposed to be recovering when the storm hit, but was instead driving me and my family off to Lake Charles to a relative\'s house none of us had met. What could be worse than that? Riding in the back seat of my car with my grandma, 93 at the time, two cats and their litter box in the trunk of my small SUV. It took us 12 hours to reach our destination... a trip that would normally take under 3. It was a long bumpy road filled with twists and turns getting there, but ultimately our house did not flood—reminding me to look at the bigger picture when faced with difficult situations.
