In St. James my aunt and uncle from Chalmette came stay with us. We were at my grandpa;s house and he was in a hospital in New Orleans having surgery. We loss power at around 1 a.m. before the storm even hit land. We watched the storm from under the car port. It did not seem like a very bad storm from where we were. We even came from under the car port at some times. The worst was just a few gust of wind and some pieces of tin flying around. That afternoon we began hearing the destruction in New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish which caused my aunt and cousins to panic. We did not have power from Monday when the storm hit until Friday. We went to Donaldsonville to wash some clothes from there I finally saw the flooding. School resumed a week after the storm hit. We had many new displaced students stay at Ascension Catholic School for a few months. Hurricane Rita did not affect us.
