Natural Disaster Turned Unnatural-
I grew up on the gulf coast. I am from the Northshore of New Orleans, but my dad's family has roots in Mobile, Alabama. I grew up hearing the stories about these storms. They were referred to strictly by their name, as if it was a person not a storm. Andrew, Betsy, George- Stories of blue crabs washing out of the storm drains in my dad's childhood neighborhood in Mobile. I saw the Cabinet doors along with the kitchen walls stripped away from our Alabama house after Isaac, but the dishes inside the cabinets sit there as if nothing happened. So unreal- so unnatural. Along with the unnatural disaster of the federal levee break after Katrina another unnatural phenomena sticks with me- all the boats stuck way up in the trees along the interstate as we are heading north after the storm.
