Laplace

HPIM1525.JPG

I grew up in LaPlace. We've always been lucky during hurricane season, avoiding the worst of the destruction. Even during Isaac, when this picture was taken, and while our city was really noticeably suffering for the first time (in my memory at least), our street didn't even flood. Mostly my family had to contend with the heat, lack of water, and intense cabin fever. However, despite the discomfort and worry for our community, valued memories were made. Stuck in Hurricane Limbo without access to TV and shopping malls, we were forced to spend time together, like card games or playing in the rain. We've stuck it out through Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Isaac; despite the awful circumstances, I am lucky enough to be able to look back at those times with some fondness.
