I had just got out of the hospital a few days before from having a hysterectomy and a c-section.\r\n I had a very bad infection so I was in the hospital longer then we had planed. I seen over the tv that we had to leave.\r\n We were living in Sulphur LA at that time so I packed a few things up and called my husband and told him we had to go.\r\n He came home from work and helped me get the kids to the car I have 3 kids.\r\n We left and went up to a place called Toledo bend, thinking it would be safe because it was going to hit some ware else. Wrong it hit right ware we were and it got so hot no power or water and my baby was only 5lb. I had to quit nursing him because it was to hot to cuddle my newborn. I was still ill and most every one that had gone had only brought beer. I was quite disgusted to think that is the last/first thing any one could think about. We did bring a bit of food for our kids but not enough to hold over for the time it ended up being. \r\nThe night the hurricane hit was so scary I have never been in one before I am originally from Utah moved to Louisiana in 2004. We did make it threw the night there were trees crashing and falling all around us and tornadoes down the street about 20 feet. All I could do is pray to god to protect my children. We made it threw the night and when we got up the next morning we seen all the damage all around us. Every one wanted to go home but the roads were closed due to damage, no gas, no food, and no ac...\r\n My baby quit breathing so we had to rush him to a hospital up there. After that we found a nice church that had us come stay with them because they had food, water, and ac, I thank god for that. They helped save my baby and myself and have a place for my other kids to play and be taken care of. I had got another bad infection and had to be rushed back to the hospital. I wanted to go home so bad, back to Utah that is.\r\n I swore that I would never take my kids back there if I got out. I called my family and told them we were doing alright and that I was coming home when I could but they had no gas or a way out of south east Texas. I told my husband I was never going back He wanted to because his job, his family, but we could not go back to the conditions that were at home. no power, water, they said staff was in the water. I just had a major surgery I could not go back. \r\nSo he said he would leave with me. He went back to the house in Sulphur had to be in and out before dark (this is a week later) He grabbed a few more things he thought that we needed and that was it. I never seen that home again and never returned to Louisiana after that.\r\n After couple weeks in the church we packed up and took off headed to Colorado. I was sick all the way major pain and my gallbladder decide it wanted to give out. . But when they got gas in Hemp Hill I was ready to leave. We made it to Colorado after driving on and off for 4 days If I was not so sick I could have helped drive. I felt at peace. I am home , I can breath, I can see, I need a coat, It is wonderful, it is heaven. We stayed in a motel here for a week and then found our own place. I thank god and every one in that town of Hemp Hill Texas who helped my family and I get out and survive.
