Hurricane Katrina, one of the most devastating storms in history, severely impacted the lives of New Orleanians both physically and mentally. As a resident of St. Bernard Parish, I lost my home, possessions, friends, and community. My hometown has hardly recovered from the storm, which is very difficult for my family since my maternal relatives lived so close. At the moment, I am staying at my grandparents\' home in Metairie until my parents decide what is next for our future. Living with five people is extremely different since I am an only child. Previous to the storm, I had my own gymnastics program for the local government. This was a huge opportunity for me; however, I am currently working for Ivanov\'s Gymnastics Academy in Metairie. Emotionally, I have put the hurricane aside, but I have taken so many lessons from this catastrophe which will only further myself as an individual. I learned that material possessions are nothing compared to the time we are able to spend with our friends and family. Also, now I am confident and feel like I can overcome any situation. Even though I lost many objects due to the storm, I am stronger as a person and I feel that better things will come from the hurricane.
