I was watching Hurricane Katrina on the news a few days before it hit. The weather man said that the cold front would probably push it away from us. The next thing you know the weather man is telling everyone to leave because it was going to be a big one. We packed our belongings and our pets and left for Texas that night. Just like everyone else I thought that we were only going to be gone for three or four days and so I packed accordingly. Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana. \r\n\r\n Watching something like that makes you feel so helpless and sad. I cried so much. I knew that just about everyone had lost everything that they owned. The worst losses were those of family and friends, but we also lost communities. As the days went by my heart continued to break seeing all the people in New Orleans waiting to be rescued from rooftops, bridges, and all the people who had lost their lives. I sat in front of the TV for days waiting to hear something about St. Tammany Parish. All they were showing on television was New Orleans and Mississippi. Each day my heart grew heavier as I thought more about how there could be nothing left of St. Tammany Parish and that was why they weren\'t showing anything. \r\n\r\n Finally a few clips of St. Tammany were shown. I lived in Lacombe, Louisiana. I was only a few miles away from Northshore Mall. Slidell and Lacombe were hit hard by Katrina. It just wasn\'t shown on TV. I lost my home to the hurricane and so did everyone I know and love. I made it home four weeks after the hurricane. When I saw my house I was very upset, but no one I knew had lost their life. I am greatful for that. In the end it is all that matters. I headed to Slidell afterwards to check on everyone. Slidell was a disaster. Neighborhoods were gone or covered in sludge from flooding.\r\n\r\n My heart goes out to everyone who lost their homes. I hope that everyone will come back home and rebuild. For me my home will always be in Louisiana. I can\'t imagine ever living in another place. They say home is where the heart is. Mine is firmly rooted in Louisiana.
