My family evacuated from Hurricane Katrina to Tennessee. During my stay there (over a month) I learned why Tennessee is called the volunteer state. My family stayed with another family in an old Naval housing complex in a Naval Base. All over the base there were tents set up for food drives, clothing and blanket drives, medical care, and even volunteer baby-sitters for parents who had evacuated with small children. Everywhere we went there was someone willing to help. My sister and I attended a local highs school and my mom had to return Louisiana because of her job. My dad filled his time working at the tent designated for food collection. One night my dad decided to bring some food back to the housing complex we were staying at when one of the volunteers stopped him saying, \"What are you doing? That food is for the refugees?\" My dad laughed and explained to her that he had evacuated for Hurricane Katrina.
