I was a freshman at Jesuit in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit. I remember not even hearing about it until the Friday before and even then I didn\'t understand how big of a storm it would be.\r\nFast forward to 2 days later, Sunday, and I\'m leaving at 6 A.M. to go to Houston. The drive took over 17 hours and along the way I got a better idea of how bad it was really going to be.\r\nOnce we finally got to Houston, I was staying at a hotel which was pretty much full of New Orleans residents, quite a few of whom I knew. I think having so many of us in one place helped a little bit due to the fact that now all we could do was watch it on tv and hope for the best. As soon as it was over, my parents and I went back to New Orleans as soon as anyone was able and we were able to actually get to our house. By the time we got there, the water was gone, but it was flooded.\r\nI do feel fortunate it was only the first floor though.\r\n\r\nIt was wierd being there though. The military had helicopters flying everywhere and it was just quiet chaos kinda. I didn\'t know what was going to happen and it scared me.\r\n\r\nAt least we had the Saints :)
